Abstract.
Preserving researchers’ digital materials poses significant challenges for cultural heritage institutions due to high labor requirements and the urgency demanded by rapid technological obsolescence and software instability. While integrating materials from researchers’ personal websites offers a potential solution, these sites differ fundamentally from institutional archives. This thesis examines these differences by investigating researcher websites as personal archives, surveying senior Human-Computer Interaction researchers’ sites, and interviewing them to understand their motivations. The findings highlight a gap between archival requirements and researcher goals, culminating in a set of design guidelines to bridge this divide.
